What is Defence Quota in Indian Railway?

Defence quota refers to the seats that the railways reserve for members of the armed forces. Only defence officials are eligible to use the Railways Reservation Defense Quota (MCO contact numbers).

With their ID cards, the defence personnel can reserve seats in any train that has a defence quota. For information on which trains and how many seats are available for the Defense Quota, download the file.

In the Defence quota, there are seats in the 1A, 2AC, 3AC, and sleeper classes of Indian Railways reserved for the military, but these seats are only guaranteed to military personnel who have waiting for tickets or confirmed tickets purchased through MCO.

Procedure to Get Defence Quota in Indian Railway through MCO

Temporary Duty (TD) or unplanned or emergency leave for serving defence personnel and their families is intended for use by Defence Quota, which is then granted to serving personnel on a first-come, first-served basis. Veteran members of the military and their families may be given any extra seats.

• Bookings made against Defence Quota can only be made up to 30 days in advance of the departure date.
• Defence Quota will only be permitted on wait-listed tickets; RAC tickets will not be accepted.
• Moreover, Defence Quota inquiries shall be responded to via official letter, fax, and signal only.
• Reservations for Defence Quota will not be accepted through telephone.
• Defence personnel must have their ID or dependent card on them when making Defence Quota reservations. The tickets cannot be booked through Defence Quota without presenting an identity card or dependent card.
• Reservation cancellations made using the Defence Quota must be sent to the MCO within 24 hours prior to train departure.
